Pudsey Visits Brabyns for Children In Need

Posted: 18th November 2024

We were delighted to welcome a very special visitor to celebrate our fundraising efforts for this year’s BBC Children In Need. Pudsey Bear made time in his very busy schedule to pop in and see how the school has supported the national charity – and of course offer excellent ‘bear hugs’ all round!

Staff and children took on a sponsored triathlon over 3 days; incorporating fitness challenges into academic lessons, PE sessions, break times and extra curricular activities. The triathlon was achieved by cycling and running in school grounds and local parks and swimming during the school’s regular Friday lessons at Life Leisure Romiley.  All of the classes from Brabyns 2 year old Nursery children through to Year 6 also arranged their own fundraising activities including cake and craft sales, sponsored silences and fancy dress competitions.

During the week, Brabyns also took the opportunity to highlight it’s commitment to fundraising and charity as integral components of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PHSE) and Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural (SMSC) education. These elements are deeply rooted in the school ethos and are underscored by a continued partnership with important charitable symbols such as BBC’s Children in Need’s Pudsey Bear. Engaging in fundraising and charitable activities provides an invaluable opportunity for our students to develop essential life skills, including empathy, teamwork, and social responsibility; encouraging them to reflect on the impact of their actions on others and the wider community. Integrating the principle of giving back into daily learning, cultivates a generation of conscientious citizens who appreciate the importance of charity in fostering a harmonious society.

Mrs Carrasco was delighted to welcome Pudsey to Brabyns and commented; “At Brabyns Preparatory School and Nursery we strive to develop a concern for others outside the immediate school community. Our fundraising and charity work are not merely supplemental activities but rather, essential components of a well-rounded education that align with our school values and ethos. We continue to cultivate these principles to nurture a compassionate and proactive student body. Through giving and supporting local and international charities our pupils learn about the universal values and qualities of good citizenship from a very early age.  We are proud to be involved in this year’s Children In Need and are overjoyed to see Brabyns fundraising total hit the £2000 mark – with donations still flooding in!”
